Proof that fans of conferences inferior to the SEC remain salty and mad.

SEC is the best conference but it really isn't that far ahead of anyone else. I don't think they are nearly that good this year especially

How many people think their non-SEC team would do better in the SEC than where they are now?

The SEC is so awesome...... that 2 mediocre Big 12 schools waltzed in and have dominated.

SEC Rankings
Great Teams that would dominate in any conference
Alabama - spectacular team - one of the great football programs of the best 5-6 years
LSU - Another great team since Miles took over.

Big 12 Teams
Missouri - piss poor first year but dominating second season in SEC
A&M - Manziel dumps on SEC defenses weekly

Good teams that perennially disappoint
UGA - no defense
South Carolina - every year is their year to break through - they never do

Unstable programs without an established identity
Florida
Auburn
Ole Miss

Bad teams
Kentucky
Tennessee
Arkansas
Miss St

and than their isVanderbilt

SEC Fanboys love hanging their hat on Alabama and LSU when their favorite team does not make it to a big time bowl game to cling to the notion of SEC dominance when it isn't the whole conference. It is a top heavy conference.

the best team in the sec has, over the past 7 years, been the best in the country. that's where this whole sec dominance thing comes in. it's a very top-heavy conference but it's probably the most athletic in the country and it's pretty clear at this point that the schedule gets these teams prepared to play in and win championships

My head explodes every time I see these numbers, because they tell us absolutely nothing about the quality of the players.

Value of the second NFL contracts, or total starts, or years in the NFL would all be far more informative than "Players Drafted - In One Particular Draft."

what? for starters, there is a vast amount variables in the data your proposing - scheme fit, ability to pick up a playbook, injuries, etc. that determine whether or not a player has staying power in the nfl. even then, the prior numbers are absolutely indicative of SEC talent as a whole. there are scouts PAID to evaluate the talent of these kids and determine whether or not they are worth a draft pick. by and large (rather, in greater numbers), they are picking SEC players. it's almost certainly a combination of good coaching, good strength and conditioning, and above all, generally superior athletes.

whether or not an NFL staff is capable of developing one of these guys into a guy who sticks in the league is on the NFL - not the SEC, its teams, or its coaches.

Non SEC fans make way more threads about the SEC, trying to convince each other that it's just like every other conference.

I do think the SEC is overrated, but the logic of this piece really sucks. Yeah, ignore the fact that SEC teams have WON all the NC games they supposedly got into based on hype. ESPN has a similar deal with the Big Ten, and all they ever do is crap all over them.

Yeah, but SEC players have a huge advantage in the scouting process. Since the SEC is perceived to be so much stronger than the rest of the country, the players receive more attention and get more credit for their performance. A decent player from Arkansas probably has a better chance of getting drafted than a good player from Iowa.

Unless you are doing a terrible scouting job you have seen both guys play. for what you're saying to make any sense, these guys must play the same scheme, position, look identical on film, and be equal athletes. at that point, sure, you probably see a bias toward players who compete in the SEC

If producing NFL players (that actually turn and produce), Cal would be one of the better teams in the nation.

---

It also depends on your definition of conference strength. If having the best team that can't be beaten by, pretty much, anyone and nobody, in conference or out of conference, can take them down then yeah SEC is the strongest. Their top team has been winning the BCS championship for good number of years now.

Some people see CONFERENCE strength as conference balance. How fun is it to see Alabama beat up on everyone in their path. How fun it is to see Oregon lose to Arizona or Stanford lose to Utah or Arizona State come out of nowhere and win the Pac-12 South division? How cool is it to see Baylor get walloped by Oklahoma State? Isn't the conference much stronger when the top teams can lose any given Saturday?

it is stupid to use alabama as a measuring stick for the rest of the sec because alabama is basically a semi-pro team at this point. of course they are going to steamroll the rest of the conference. You should look at how other teams compete against teams like LSU, Missou, SCar - all of whom are top 25 teams with in-conference losses. and how all of the teams compete in their ooc schedule. for the sake of this argument alabama might as well be an outlier

A&M really dominating with that 4th place SEC-West standing.

Missouri is a good team this year that has benefited from the fact that the SEC-East is a complete mess. Florida is historically bad, and Georgia went half the season with half their team injured.

A&M has been one of the best SEC teams since they joined. They are better than any SEC East team this year except Missouri probably - who by the way was an okay Big 12 team before they joined the SEC. What was the score in the Florida game yesterday? LSU, A&M, Georgia: bunch of three loss teams who being ranked as high as they are is a joke.

The National Champ usually comes from that conference, and they aren't as bad or as shallow as the B1G or Big 12 or ACC, but they aren't as amazing as they are made out to be. Afraid to play out of conference games outside of the southeast unlike other conferences.

A&M has this quarterback whose name elude me but he is a pretty big part of that success. and Mizzou benefits from playing in a weak division of the SEC. their only real test was against SCar, a loss. UGA and Florida have been decated by injuries and the rest of the east has been bad recently. If you are arguing that the sec isnt that great because two big twelve teams have been successful it is a very flawed one

I see your point so lets take a quick look:

LSU OOC 4-0 (W - #20 TCU, UAB, Kent State, Furman)
Auburn OOC 4-0 (W - Wash St., Ark St., Western Carolina, Florida Atlantic)
Mississippi St OOC 3-1 (W - Alcorn St., Bowling Green, Troy. L - OK St.)
Kentucky OOC 2-2 (W - Miami(OH), Alabama St. L - Wstrn Kentucky, #7 Louisville)
Florida OOC 1-2 (W - Toledo L - Miami, Georgia Southern.) *
Tennessee OOC 3-1 (W - Austin Peay, W Kentucky, S Alabama L - Oregon)
Georgia OOC 2-1 (W - N Texas, App St. L - Clemson) *
South CarolinaOOC 3-0 (W - N Carolina, UCF, Coast Carolina) *
Missouri OOC 4-0 (W - Murray St., Indiana, Toledo, Ark St.)
Ole Miss OOC 4-0 (W - SE Missouri, Texas, Idaho, Troy)
Texas A&M OOC 4-0 (W - Rice, Sam Houston, UTEP, SMU)
Arkansas OOC 3-1 (W - UL-Lafayette, Samford, S Miss L - Rutgers)
Vanderbilt OOC 3-0 (W - Austin Peay, UAB, UMass) *

* = Still has a OOC opponent to play
