Texas is in MUCH better shape than Bama was when Saban took it over, and it has more resources available than any program in the country.
Hell Saban went 6-6 and lost to ULM at Bama. They were in a much worse state. He could step in and content for a NC next year.

I don't know if he could contend year one at Texas. Saban's teams thrive on a strong defense (Texas does not have it), great offensive line (I have no idea), deep running back group (Texas has it and Saban could recruit a guy this year to come in and contriubte), and a game-manager QB (Texas doesn't have). 2014 they would be decent and 2015 they'd be a top-five team.

Texas is very broken right now, they are 2-3 years away from competing for MNCs at a minimum.

You mean the same Big 12 that saw two teams leave to succeed in the SEC?

Missouri and Texas A&M were Big 12 afterthoughts, each has reached new levels of success in the SEC with the players they recruited in the Big 12. It is the same.

Michigan should be on that list, I'd put it above Penn State for sure. Their brand is so powerful and the athletics department itself is just a machine. They were third in total revenue last year.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to do with Michigan. The money and the brand are for sure great. But Michigan isn't really a recruiting hot bed. Neither is Pennsylvania I suppose, but better than Michigan.

Penn State can pull from Penn, Maryland, and New Jersey. They're probably the top program in all three states, plus DC and NYC.

You can recruit nationally at Michigan and Hoke is doing so for now if he starts losing I don't know. They will take a player or two out of Florida, and they've got five stars for next year's class from Florida and Kentucky. I think he's showing that if you want an elite recruit and there's none in Michigan you can go get them. Now of course you have to win and not have your job in jeopardy for that to happen. Another thing is the pipeline from Ohio, they get some of the best talent in the state and recruit well there.

They were mediocre Big12 teams. They neither improved nor went down. By definition, the Big12 strength lost it's two most average teams. Typical 6-7 range in the Big12 teams. Remove the middle and the conference didn't improve or weaken from a strength of schedule perspective.

DC? They have one player on their roster from DC and he was like a C level prospect. And I haven't seen Penn State do well recruiting Maryland like they have in the past. The top players in Maryland always end up getting poached it seems like to SEC schools or other big time schools. There are obvious exceptions like Stefon Diggs and Kendall Fuller. But I wouldn't say Penn State is the best recruiter in Maryland, not anymore.

And now some Saban related news for this thread, McCarron says Saban is staying at Bama.

He told me he's not leaving. And I know Miss Terry [Saban's wife] ... she runs that house. And she's not allowing Coach to leave either.

How is someone a dimwit because they suggest that Saban makes his decisions based on where his wife is happy? It's clearly effected his coaching choices before. I don't think she likes living in Tuscaloosa because of her house, I think she likes living in Tuscaloosa because she enjoys the atmosphere. It's a college town environment and that's what she likes. Not saying Austin isn't a college town, but she would have to start all over again if he were to leave. There are factors other than a house that make a place nice to live.

Also still don't get why you said DC.

Eh, mighty Kutztown made a charge through the DII playoffs a couple years back. Everyone remembers where they were for that one.

Anyway, I hope Saban keeps sitting on his thumb because this has been an entertaining thread. I do just think though that he stays at 'Bama and maximizes the amount of money he can get through staying still.

Or he might go to Texas. That's my analysis.

Gee I wonder why.....

Also still don't get why you said DC.
PSU has always done extremely well from NOVA north to NYC and everything in between

Well all I'm saying is you shouldn't be considered the best recruiter in a state when you haven't done well there in 4-5 years. And just because DC falls in between NOVA and NYC (A place they've recruited worse than Maryland over the past five years). I don't know how you can be considered a top program in the area when you haven't recruited the area well over the past five years.

Because B1G programs are the best at everything, haven't you figured his routine out?

I'd say we give them a bit of a pass considering they had one of the biggest scandals in the history of sports rock them, in addition to severe scholarship sanctions. If we're talking about the value of a coaching position, it's more than just what happened in the last five years. Otherwise, the argument of Texas > Alabama makes no sense.

Penn State will be back to dominating recruiting on the Mid-Atlantic seaboard, especially with the introduction of Rutgers and Maryland to the B1G.
