Wise decision - went over to profootballtalk and the idiots over there are calling him blaine gabbert 2.0 and a bust. I hate 90% of the uninformed sheeple that call themselves NFL fans.

A lot of us over here are saying the same thing. Sticking your head in the sand doesn't get you anywhere. He's probably not Blaine Gabbert 2.0 but he's not exactly as talented as some people are saying either.

He is going to Jacksonville. It should be an easy call.

Blaine Gabbert's defining characteristic is his inability to handle any sort of adversity, whether its that his primary read is covered or that the defense is pressuring him. That's what make him the appalling quarterback that he is.

Bortles does not share Gabbert's defining weakness, nor does he have a similar playing style. Bortles routinely makes plays under pressure and has a track record of being a very clutch passer. Simply put, as a prospect Bortles does not remotely compare to Gabbert.

To call any quarterback "Blaine Gabbert 2.0" simply because you think he is overrated either means you're being lazy or you're misinformed.

He reminds me a lot of Locker, so I'd much rather just develop Locker than develop Bortles

To me he's a physical clone of Andrew Luck for the most part. Similar size, sneaky athleticism, and slightly above adequate arm strength. He is nowhere near the polished prospect of Luck obviously and needs to work on refining his mechanics to help him be more consistently adequate.

I find his mental makeup to be one of his biggest strengths as he's had his best games in his teams most important games and has been able to shake off mistakes for the most part. Winning @Penn State, @Louisville, and against Baylor in a BCS bowl is a pretty impressive resume for a C-USA team.

His mental makeup make him a better prospect than Gabbert and he's definitely a more accurate passer than Locker.

So basically he's nothing like Gabbert. Sounds about right.

The thing about Bortles is a lot of his throws are right at or behind the line of scrimmage which inflates his completion percentage, and he can be very inconsistent when throwing the ball anywhere past 10 yards. But he has much better awareness than Gabbert ever had and his footwork is 100x better.

I swear no team actually scouts these Quarterbacks with great size. Gabbert was a horrendous Quarterback for Missouri, he could not complete anything over 10 yards and his pocket presence was atrocious. But hey, he's 6'5 230 pounds with a good arm, so he went top 12, it's laughable.

Bortles is a good QB, I'd even say he's a first rounder. It's just kinda weird that he might go Top 5. But in a world where Christian Ponder and EJ Manuel are first rounders, I guess Blake Bortles is a Top 5 QB.

100% agree. Seems many teams are willing to look at a kids raw tools rather than tape as well as tools and take them high. Then the same GM's who have given their HC a raw QB only see 3 wins in a season and the HC gets fired!!

Gabbert the best example - I'm a Jags fan and I hated it when we picked him. I just couldn't see anything in terms of accuracy and his eyes weren't great either, especially under pressure. Now I guess we could take Bortles - he's better but still crazy.

Just waiting now for all the Logan Thomas 1st/2nd round talk - great, kid can throw the ball through a brick wall - no matter he only hits the wall 2 out of 10 times!!

Bortles doesn't see an invisible pass rush, even with Clowney coming down on him. I watched the whole uSC reel for Bortles, he does make an unusually high number of passes near the line of scrimmage. Maybe the game plan to get it out as quick as possible.

Didn't see to many throws to the opposite side of the hash, if he did they were late or off target. Kind of a concern. Did have a nice 26 yard(not from LOS) throw from the far hash to sideline. His deep ball accuracy that game was a concern.

He did have the escape ability, climbed up in the pocket and looked for a down field throw.

Watching film he's really not. He shows so many bubble screens that his numbers show it, but the film does not

A lot of commentators rave about his accuracy. As someone who has seen every throw he's made, I can say that is actually one of his weakest spots. But the issue isn't actually his accuracy being bad. It's lazy mechanics, mostly lower body. When his mechanics are spot on, he's very accurate. But too often he gets a bit messy with his lower body and balls sail high on him. He needs a QB coach who will work on his mechanics and get him more consistent. That will fix his accuracy.

I agree that he's not as accurate as his numbers show but that doesn't mean he's not more accurate than Locker. I just want to point out that you can make the bubble screen comment about almost every QB in college football at this point. I don't think Bortles throws an exceptionally large # of them and certainly not as many as guys like Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota.

I didn't know turds could be developed. Locker is nothing. He was a huge mistake out of the gate. Bortles is far from a sure thing either but Tenn is a mess right now. They need to take a QB at some point in time to sit behind Fitz and just cut Locker a as a failed experiment.

That's what I saw as well. This guy has some serious question marks.

You show how little you know by suggesting you keep Fitz and cut Locker.

Locker was playing fairly well as a game manager up until his injury. Not saying that's great, but there's teams winning games with game managers right now and they were 5-2 this season in the games he started

Just waiting now for all the Logan Thomas 1st/2nd round talk - great, kid can throw the ball through a brick wall - no matter he only hits the wall 2 out of 10 times!!
I think part of it is the egos of these coaches. They think that if they get a guy in their system with xyz physical tools, they can work their magic on him.

He is a big Jeff Garcia with a better arm. Senses pressure in the pocket well, even when it's not there. Likes to get out of the pocket. Clutch performer and is capable of really putting a broken play into the highlight reel.

Jeff Garcia must be feeling pretty good that every QB in this draft is being compared to him.

With Bortles it's really all there for him to be coached up into a very good NFL QB. Should get his name called fairly early.

I heard Jeff Garcia was a duck. I thought he played for Santa Clara in college. I guess that would also make him a Banana Slug.
