Pro Football Focus Pro Bowl Teams.

A bit more accurate as they (try) to analyze and crunch numbers.
They're not as perfect as they think they are over there at PFF, but they're a lot better than the voters.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...owl-team-2014/

OFFENSE

Quarterback: Peyton Manning (DEN) and Philip Rivers (SD)

Backups: Russell Wilson (SEA), Drew Brees (NO), Matthew Stafford (DET) and Tom Brady (NE)

Running Back: LeSean McCoy (PHI) and Jamaal Charles (KC)

Backups: Eddie Lacy (GB), DeMarco Murray (DAL), Adrian Peterson (MIN) and Marshawn Lynch (SEA)

Full Back: Anthony Sherman (KC) and Mike Tolbert (CAR)

Wide Receiver: Antonio Brown (PIT), Calvin Johnson (DET), Brandon Marshall (CHI) and Andre Johnson (HOU)

Backups: DeSean Jackson (PHI), Alshon Jeffrey (CHI), Jordy Nelson (GB) and Josh Gordon (CLE)

Talk about competitive. We could have gone any number of ways here so we’ll understand fans of Anquan Boldin, A.J. Green and Demaryius Thomas siding against this. As it is can you really argue against any of those selections?

Tight End: Jimmy Graham (NO) and Vernon Davis (SF)

Backups: Jason Witten (DAL) and Tony Gonzalez (ATL)

Tackle: Joe Thomas (CLE), Andrew Whitworth (CIN), Demar Dotson (TB) and Phil Loadholt (MIN)

Backups: Jordan Gross (CAR) and Joe Staley (SF)

Guard: Evan Mathis (PHI), Josh Sitton (GB), Louis Vasquez (DEN) and Larry Warford (Det)

Backups: Brandon Fusco (MIN) and Travelle Wharton (CAR)

Center: Alex Mack (CLE) and Chris Myers (HOU)

Backups: John Sullivan (MIN) and Jason Kelce (PHI)

DEFENSE

Defensive End: Robert Quinn (SL), J.J. Watt (HOU), Calais Campbell (ARZ) and Cameron Jordan (NO)

Backups: Greg Hardy (CAR) and Cameron Wake (MIA)

Defensive Tackle: Gerald McCoy (TB), Ndamukong Suh (DET), Jurrell Casey (TEN) and Kyle Williams (BUF)

Backups: Dontari Poe (KC) and Marcell Dareus (BUF)

Inside Linebacker: NaVorro Bowman (SF) and Patrick Willis (SF)

Backups: Derrick Johnson (KC) and Karlos Dansby (ARZ)

The big controversy. Have we forgot about Luke Kuechly? Not so and while the world likes to pin the success of a unit on one player, the truth is the Panthers’ defense is more about the collective than any one individual. So while Kuechly has played well, we’re not going to let the hype do the 49ers duo, the excellent Johnson and the criminally underrated Dansby out of a spot. Kuechly, Kiko Alonso, Sean Lee and Stephen Tulloch were all considered for the final spot, but the playmaking of Dansby (he leads his position with eight sacks and 10 pass break ups) made our minds up for us.

Outside Linebacker: Lavonte David (TB), Justin Houston (KC), Robert Mathis (IND) and Vontaze Burfict (CIN)

Backups: Brian Orakpo (WAS) and Thomas Davis (CAR)

Cornerback: Darrelle Revis (TB), Brent Grimes (MIA), Richard Sherman (SEA) and Patrick Peterson (ARZ)

Backups: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (DEN), Keenan Lewis (NO), Vontae Davis (IND) and Joe Haden (CLE)

Strong Safety: Eric Berry (KC) and T.J. Ward (CLE)

Free Safety: Devin McCourty (NE) and Earl Thomas (SEA)

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicker: Nick Folk (NYJ) and Justin Tucker (BAL)

Returner: Cordarrelle Patterson (MIN) and Golden Tate (SEA)

Punter: Shane Lechler (HOU) and Johnny Hekker (SL)

Special Teamer: Justin Bethel (ARZ) and Jeremy Lane (SEA)

It sucks Jimmy Smith didn't make it. He held Josh Gordon to 3 catches for 44 yards and Calvin Johnson for 3 catches for 29 yards. Him and Lavonte David are the biggest snubs IMO.

I thought that they would still have separate AFC/NFC rosters as far as just voting, even though they are doing a gimmick with Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice picking teams. Instead they have a bunch of NFC running backs and one AFC running back, no NFC kicker, etc. So the process is even more messed up than before. And Vontaze Burfict is an OLB, not an ILB.

There's no 4-3 OLB for the NFC. If there was, either Lavonte David (TB) or Thomas Davis (CAR) would probably get the honor. For NFC kicker, Mason Crosby (GB) maybe? He had a strong comeback from a bad 2012. For AFC ILB, Jerrell Freeman (IND) gets my vote.

It's sad but it's still a name game and it still helps to be on a winning team.

Jurrell Casey should have made the pro bowl. Lavonte David should have made the pro bowl. Jordy Nelson should have made the pro bowl.

Casey missed out because bigger name guys like Ngata, and Suh have bigger names. David missed out because there's no differentiation between 3-4 LBers and 4-3 LBers. Jordy missed our because Andre Johnson had a bigger name and one huge game on tv.

Alterraun Verner not being listed here is a complete joke, going into the last game of the season only Richard Sherman held QBs to a lesser pass rating when throwing his way (I couldn't find numbers updated yet)

It's funny, the Browns had one more all-pro (5) than wins (4). Fail.

Lavonte David, Jurrell Casey, and Muhammad Wilkerson (mentioned above for being snubbed) made the AP all-pro list, if that's any consulation. Other players who were Pro Bowl snubs but were recognized by AP are:

Evan Mathis
Josh Sitton
Eddie Lacy
Karlos Dansby
T.J. Ward
Devin McCourty
Antrel Rolle

I assume that was in one of their meetings this season and not both games combined. But even if that's one game, it's impressive.

We didn't have Josh Gordon our first game against Baltimore.

In fact I think we may have won our first two games against Miami and Balt if we had Hoyer/Gordon.

Well when you get McDaniels, you'll see plenty of Hoyer next year...

Part of me thinks that's a big reason why they want McDaniels to begin with, they want to ride the Hoyer train.

Face it, fans are never going to get it right as the huge population centres have a big edge over the smaller communities when it comes to voting and few fans actually watch teams they aren't interested in and base their picks on name recognition not performance. The whole thing is just a huge waste of time which is why so few fans watch the actual game.

I'm shocked some people are arguing Antonio Brown over Josh Gordon...
Not to take anything away from Brown, but I would take a few other receivers over him for this season on the Pro Bowl/All Pro teams.

For blocker/gunner, Taiwan Jones of Oakland may have been a snub. But Matthew Slater has two things going for him: 1. He's a Patriot. 2. His father is Hall-of-Fame offensive tackle Jackie Slater. At least Jones may get the vote for favorite player named after a country.

Matthew Slater was shockingly good this year. I have ragged on him multiple times in the past as being a Pats ST reputation type guy, but it's hard to imagine him possibly playing any better in the role than he has this year.

I do find it humorous that you comment on the worthiness of other team's gunners though. like you actually have a clue on the overall effectiveness of each one.

Not to take anything away from Brown, but I would take a few other receivers over him for this season on the Pro Bowl/All Pro teams.
Gordon's numbers are nuts considering he missed 2.5 games

Actually, I don't. I just remember reading how Taiwan Jones has been good in the role since he bombed out as a RB. The Patriots have an interesting role for Slater other than special teams -- a blocking WR in the tank (1 WR, 2 TE, FB) formation.

So, Phil Emery said that Kyle Long got picked as an alternate at guard.

Kyle Long was in the middle of the pack this season. He wasn't even the best guard on his team! As a Bears fan, I'm happy with his play for a rookie, but the Pro Bowl? Is it because of who his daddy is? Evan Mathis and Larry Warford were top 3 guards and still get no love. Pro Bowl continues to be a joke.

Must be good to live off of last year and the commercials.

Two Texans, zero Jets lol. For Miami's sake, they gotta hope Wilkerson doesn't get a hold of the snub list before Sunday's game.

EDIT: Oh Watt made it via the fan vote....god what are the fools watching?
Your reliance on the sack statistic is just...no. Just no. And they do have the same number, btw. Wilkerson does not have more. If you want to look at stats that don;t tell the whole story, we can also use tackles, passes defensed, or forced fumbles...all of which have Watt leading Wilkerson. Your argument about how good their teams are is even worse. It's the pro bowl, not fantasy football. They take individual defensive players, not entire units.

JJ Watt should be the DPOY, let alone deserving of a pro bowl spot. Wilkerson was damned good, but Watt blew him away. Watt was the best defender in the NFL. No one noticed and decided he all of a sudden isn't dominant because he got pressures instead of sacks and played on a team that turned into a dumpster fire.
