I can't see Denver making that trade, Sanders is younger and is pretty talented himself, most likely cheaper as well but I have yet to check out his numbers. Sea could use a wr since Percy dies every season at some point but again, not sure they want to waste the cap space on an aging target when they have a ton of other guys they need to lock up in the next few years.

Yeah, Denver is definitely a no, not sure where that came from.

But Seattle could treat it like a 1 year rental. Trade for him with the full intention of having him help you repeat and plan to cut him after the season and his salary gets bigger.

Unlikely, yes, but like I mentioned in the first post, they and San Fran seem to be in an arms race with one another. Only one can win that division, which makes the difference of having either 2 home playoff games to the Superbowl or 3 road playoff games.

Well Fisher did have Derrick Mason for a while. Drew Bennett and But Justin McCareins were good secondary receivers for a while. Yes though, Fisher's mentality, at least when he was with Tennessee was ground/pound. The Rams just got Stedman Baily and Tavon Justin a year ago though. Fisher hasn't had a decent quarterback though since McNair. Hard for your receivers to shine without someone to throw them the football.

And Mason was a 4th round pick.

Also, I was surprised when they took Austin as high as they did. Probably means it's even less likely that they'll trade for or pay another big name WR.

Seattle needs to do this. Andre Johnson and Harvin for a whole year at receiver could make their offense just as good as their defense. That team would be scary.

Not sure you can assume Harvin for the whole year even.

Seattle doesn't really have the cap room at all for a move like that. They also just drafted two WRs.

I'd be very happy if they did that but I don't see it.

Chargers could probably take the cap hit if they cut Clary and some combo of Royal/English/other scrubs, but I don't think giving up the pick quite meshes. Would be nice though, pair him with Keenan Allen. side bonus -- cutting Clary period.

I wonder if Texans cut him if they can't find a trade partner

As a 1 year rental, 6.5 mil this year is easily doable.

Don't see it happening though.

The problem is that it's not a case of signing him to a one-year deal, you also have to give up compensation to bring him in. I'm in the minority on the board in thinking that Amendola/Dobson/Edelman is a suitable starting lineup for the Patriots at receiver, but I could get behind signing Johnson as a free agent. The problem is that I'm assuming it'd take a second-round pick to bring him in, in which case I'd prefer to try and find a cheap young player to add to the roster instead. It'd be a mistake for Houston to trade him below market value, so I don't see a trade happening unless a contender is willing to take a short-sighted approach to building their team in an effort to win a championship.

If I had to throw out the name of a team that might consider it, maybe Carolina? Johnson would offer a big upgrade over someone like Jerricho Cotchery.

No way any team is dumb enough to give up a second for what's left of AJ...he said forgetting that the Browns haven't been moved again yet.

Hoping the Raiders do it. Makes perfect sense for their entire offseason mantra, and he'd really be able to make their young WRs flourish.

Conversely, hoping the Jets don't do this. It's fun when you're on the Revis side of that matchup, but not the other.

Carolina has been in salary cap hell for years. Theres no way they can find enough cap for him. If they could they wouldve kept Steve.

They'd have to do a little bit of work to fit him in under the cap. Right now, OvertheCap has them with $5.58 million, which would be within striking distance if Johnson is only owed $6.5 million next year. However, if you're Houston, do you want to trade away one of your best players for a second-or-third-round pick, knowing you just paid him a $5.5 million signing bonus this offseason?

Yeah no way would anyone give a second round pick for Johnson and I wouldn't guess Houston is looking for a second rounder.

Rams,Browns and Pats make the most sense. The first two can afford to give up some future picks if needed. Browns have 2 extra 2015 picks and Rams have loaded up with draft picks the last few years.

Johnson isn't going anywhere. He would have to retire before he is traded. His salary cap situation would have a negative impact on the team. AJ has always been a class act, he won't push for a trade. Wondering if Houston is the place for him is a long way from asking for a trade. Also OTA's are voluntary, if AJ doesn't want to show up he doesn't have to show up and if anyone on the Texans has earned that right it's AJ.

Aside from that IF AJ were to leave the Texans he would want to go to a team with a sure shot at the playoffs. Those teams do not have the salary to add him. Saying they can find a way to get him on the team might be true, but not realistic.

I'd be shocked if the Texans got a second for an old WR with a big contract who may only have one or two good years left.

The salary cap stuff is grossly overblown. The Cap is higher than it's ever been and is only expected to continue growing as new TV money comes into the formula.

Second, the way teams have come to be able to manipulate their cap numbers is almost like voodoo. When a team wants to bring someone in, they make it happen. In fact, in recent trade situations, the player's salary has become a bigger burden for the team trying to trade him (due to the cap hit from accelerated bonuses) than the team trying to acquire him.

In the end, if no team wants to trade for Andre, it won't be because of his salary this season. Treating him as a 1 year rental at his $6.5 million cap number this year with the production he still put up the last two years would be a great move for a WR needy team.

Except that production came exclusively in the form of catch totals, not big plays. He's a pure possession guy now even for the little bit he manages to stay fully healthy for. Dude's got amazing hands still and is smart and big, but that speed is gone and that explosiveness is gone. I sure as **** wouldn't want the giants giving up any day one or two pick for the right to pay him that much.

I mean Desean didn't even fetch a third, and people think teams are going to give up a second for Johnson? Come on.
