20 20+ yard receptions last year, tied for 6 in the league, and with godawful QB play to boot. That's more than a lot of guys who are considered elite receivers in the league still.

He's obviously not getting any younger, but if he could manage 75% of what he did in Houston last year in place like New England, he'd be worth it and could probably get them a lot closer to the Superbowl.

And Desean was a head case. Not comparable.

Desean was fine, he hasn't had off the field issues and he hasn't had a ton of on field issues either. Plus hes younger, far more dynamic and coming off his most productive season yet. I'd say thats pretty comparable. No one is sending teams high picks these days.

If I were the texans and teams were willing to send me a second round pick, I'd make that trade in a heartbeat.

I don't disagree on DeSean or on AJ's impact on the Patriots...but that's an indictment of the Pats' current WRs as much as it is a comment on what AJ's still got left in the tank.

We probably have a bottom 5 if not 3 wr grouping not counting Gronk.

I still think Houston isn't getting a second round pick. I'd be shocked if they did.

I'd give up a second in a heartbeat to get him in lightning bolts, but I don't think it's in the cards.

Yeah, no way a 2nd round pick. 3rd round maybe, but I was thinking more a combination of third day picks.

Well he floundered in NY, but if I remember correctly at the time he left Tennessee after 2003 on a high note, which is why he got that deal from the Jets.

Got a 2nd from the Jets because they were hungry for a WR and he was still kind of young.

Awful player though. Lousy hands, was afraid of contact, he provided next to nothing.

i think AJ to the saints would be a fun scenario... maybe for colston and some lesser picks package. it would be interesting to see how defenses would have to adjust their coverages with AJ working his possession routes with Graham and Cooks blazin' down the seams...

This story has flown under the radar.

What contenders even have the cap space to afford him?

Where does everyone think this goes? Does he just bite the bullet and play for them in the end?

If someone really wanted to take on Andre Johnson and his contract, and if the Texans were looking for trade candidates, we probably would have heard something by now. Andre is probably going to either play for the Texans this fall or call it a career.

This has all the feel of a trade that won't happen. But if someone gets Andre Johnson for a 3rd rounder come November there will be a lot of people asking how the other 30 teams could be so dumb.

It's amazing that everyone over values draft picks 364 days a year and then on draft day will give up 2nd, 3rd, rounders to move up spots.

Johnson to a team like The Pats is worth a second rounder. You have a HOF QB on the last 3 years, Johnson can play it out with him. Brady needs talent.

The Patriots will be able to handle Johnson's mega contract?

If we made some moves we could, but in all likelihood we'd restructure it, which Johnson himself has said hes willing to do. This isn't happening however, which is really to bad considering we need a player like him, even despite the fact he skills may be declining. We'll just see another season of our offense stalling out in critical situations because no one can get open and or we lead the league in drops again.

I would say that Andre Johnson is probably a bit of overkill for our offense and our cap situation. What the Pats really need is to find a 1A/#2 type guy, a Colston, Decker, Crabtree, or Nelson type threat. There isn't room in the Pats offense to fit in a guy who is used to seeing 180 targets a season. Edelman, Vereen, and Gronk (If Healthy) will receive well over 100 targets each. What they need is a reliable sure handed guy who can diversify their route tree, and potentially beat most corners on a few plays a game.

I don't think that guy is available right now. Andre Johnson is obviously much more than that. Would we be willing to give up a 2nd and cap space that we will need next year for him, probably not, but adding him is feasible under the 2014 cap. The issue with that move is I think directionally it goes against where the franchise is going.

The Pats have set up 2014 to be the last hurrah for older expensive vets like Mankins, Wilfork, Kelly, Browner, Mayo, Amendola, Arrington, Connolly, and potentialy even Revis. The Pats are currently over the 2015 cap in salary commitments, but have huge savings available from the aforementioned vets. I see 2014 being a prove it year for those guys, but a good chunk of those guys will be gone come this time next year, as the Pats look to resign some of their good younger recent draft picks.

Right now the Pats have left all of their options open for 2015. By getting Johnson they'd be closing a good chunk of their options, for somebody who is probably overkill given their needs.

Looks like it doesn't matter now. Andre has reported to Texans training camp.
