I agree, Donno. Siver was cut, but never hurt. Wiman didn't do THAT much outside of doing a great job maintaining top position and getting a cutting elbow in early in the sequence.

Damn Stann is rumored to fight Sonnen. I was looking forward to Stann vs Munoz as Mark would have stood in front of him and he has KO power. Sonnen vs Stann will be no different than Phil Davis owning Stann and kicking him down to MW. Easy 3 round takedown decision for Sonnen.

It will look exactly the same as the davis fight if Stann hasn't improved. Stann's standup has drastically improved, perhaps his wrestling has as well. He'll need some wrestling if he ever wants to be a legit contender against Anderson. No one can stand with him.

That's the thing though Stann is the type of guy who would stand with Anderson, not smart but makes for an exciting fight however long it lasts. Sonnen has a chin to get Stann down, I'm sure he's made nice progression with his wrestling at Greg Jackson's camp, but with how bad his wrestling was against even guys like Rodney Wallace and Krzystof Sozynski I highly doubt he has the tools to stop Sonnen especially since he doesn't have a threatening guard in any way. I just think it's a bad stylistic matchup for him. If anything I would have given Sonnen Munoz since Munoz has the wrestling to keep it standing and saved Stann for the Belfort/Akiyama winner, or even Alan Belcher. I really wish they had done Stann vs Bisping instead of Mayhem but I understand it was all about the TUF timing.

It's actually looking like it'll be Sonnen v. Machida at 205. Sonnen's been talking all kinds of ****, and Lyoto said he'd sign on for the fight immediately if they presented it to him.

BTW how is Marquardt cut immediately but not Sonnen? Dana does some real shady ish. It's not like Marquardt is some unknown guy like Falcao, Nate is a pretty recognizable fighter.

Stann doesn't have a rediculous guard but he has shown a propensity to be active and throw up triangles and look for sweeps, he's not great, but he might be good enough.

Marquardt was caught 3 times now and the third time was on the eve of a main event costing the UFC a lot of money. Sonnen was caught for the first time after helping to generate a massive amount of buys for a traditionally low drawing champion.

Sonnen, Sherk, Thiago Silva, Bonnar the list goes on for fighters who've been caught but they were caught after the fact.

Marqardt knew for 6 weeks that he wasn't going to be allowed to fight unless he had his paperwork in order, he tried to simply skate through and ended up costing the UFC a fortune, and as White pointed out this is just a few months after the massive symposium where all of this was addressed.

Actually, his body just didn't react the way they thought it would. He was allowed to have testosterone injected into him because specialists agreed he had dangerously low levels of testosterone in his body. They were supposed to ween him off of the treatment slowly just in time to have his level at the level the commission had allowed. When they took the physical, he wasn't there.

Apparently at fight night, he would have been.

Yea I saw Stann too. I hope its Stann cause Sonnen has a better shot. I hope sonnen can pull off the win and get a title. I know he is a giant douche and a slimy crook but I like him. His trash talk cracks me up and he always gives wrestling props when he can.

I'm in the same boat as you with Sonnen. Guy does a fantastic job of reeling off trash talk to build up a fight. I am looking forward to the pressers when the fight gets closer. He has cranked up the notch of smack talk on Wanderlei and Lyoto the past month.

I was thinking about it and I don't think Stann v Sonnen makes a lot of sense. As we all know and love, Sonnen's biggest attribute in selling a fight is talking trash, something he cannot do against Stann because he is war hero/captain America. Additionally, the style matchup isn't great because unless Sonnen's skills have degraded with the layoff/Stann's TDD has gotten vastly better, it is probably going to be a typical Sonnen GNP performance for 15 minutes.

The only way I could See Sonnen selling the fight is talking about how he respects Stann because he has honor unlike Anderson/WAnderlei. However, I don't think that is as compelling as hearing him talk about his actual opponent.

Machida isn't even close to the same fighter as Anderson Silva. He dominates wrestlers, especially ones that rely on TDs like Chael does. His Sumo, Judo, and BJJ are a ridiculous combination. He'd pick Chael apart, and it'd just be an ugly fight for the guy.

But, yeah, all I'm hearing now is Stann and that it's official for 136.

Im sure Sonnen will find something nuts to say to sell the fight. It may not be complete disrespect like what he has done to Wand and Anderson but he will cook something out. He is smart and creative.

I like Sonnen's marketabillity, but I hope he gets his ass kicked for what he said about Pride. Those guys went through wars and fought over and over again without fully recovering from previous fights. Pride forever.
