Penn vs Diaz is an incredible matchup although it shows no indication of if Diaz stands a chance vs GSP. Wish we could seen him first vs T-wood.

He will either be super motived to get a big win or be smoking with Diaz the night before the fight. I could see wither scenario.

Cormier's best chance is to keep distance and use his speed advantage, Big foot is kind of slow and clunky in his striking as evidence in the Mike Kyle fight, but again it will be tough for Cormier to stop Big foot from taking him down even with his wrestling credentials given the size difference. I don't see Cormier using his wrestling and throws in this matchup, Big foot with his skills and strength on the ground would be too much for him to handle if he gets him down.

Kharitonov has such a babular translator. Hate to be picking against him and Cormier, but, yeah.
Nice to see Healy pull out the win, but the Gracie fight killed me.

50-45 meh. Rockhold didn't really do enough to win the fight IMO. Jacare landed the meaningful shots and takedowns, but I guess looking active and throwing the most gives you the advantage. At best it was 48-47 Rockhold.

I can definitely see a win for Rockhold, especially by round scoring. But it was a tough one to gauge and I was kind of expecting a split with the benefit going to the champion.

Interesting that I thought the same thing given his past health problems with weight cutting in the olympics but in his interview with Ariel Hewlani after the fight he said he would want to fight Jones or whoever is at LHW rather than Cain. So who knows with him?

Maybe he could do it if he cut the weight over a period of months, rather than in 24 hours.

I was thinking that too that maybe he would need to not so much "cut weight" as change his body composition if he wanted to go down to 205 where he had a lower weight in general so he wouldn't need to put his body through a drastic weight cut. Does anyone know what his weight cut was like when he had his problems at the Olympics?

Wow didn't realize there is a ufc event every week for the next 4 weeks. Here’s my quick thoughts on each card
9/17: Shields vs. Ellenberger
Pretty crappy card even for free fight night standards. This has potential to be the most boring main event in a while. I’ll go with Shields tentatively since he’s far more comfortable on his back of the two however I think Ellenberger is hungrier and could steal the win. The rest of the card is pretty weak. Belcher vs. Mcdonald is probably FOTN. There just seems to be some way uneven match ups. I mean Shamar Bailey vs. Evan Dunham? Really? I guess the UFC really wanted to insure that Dunham gets back on track. Plus Brookins first fight since TUF and his first time back at 145 in a while and he has to fight Koch? Doesn’t seem too fair to me. You can always tell which TUF fighters Dana loves and gives matchups that favor them like Bader and Sadollah where as guys like Wilks, Escudero, and apparently Brookins he could care less about.
9/24: Jones vs. Rampage
Even if Page comes in in great shape I can’t see him at this point in his career giving Bones much of a challenge. Bones will likely dump him on his back eventually then finishing it. If Page stands a chance he can’t fight like he did against Hamill. He needs to pressure Bones and try to KO him or dirty box him. Diaz vs. Gomi should be interesting although I fear the reach of Diaz will make it too difficult for Gomi to land his overhand. Rothwell vs. Hunt is a pretty funny matchup. I hope Rothwell decides to keep it standing. Dana putting Browne as the co main event is a feature fight for him although it won’t be an easy win.
10/1: Cruz vs. Mighty Mouse
Going to this event btw should be fun. This will be the quickest two guys you’ll see fight but damn Mighty Mouse stands no chance. I’m rooting for the dude but it isn’t happening. His one advantage on most speed is negated by Cruz. Cruz is just too long and big for him. If Faber and Benevidez had trouble taking down Cruz it’s hard to imagine Mighty Mouse doing it although Mighty Mouse does set up his takedowns in unique ways as opposed to Faber and Benevidez who use traditional set ups and really on athleticism. Standing up Cruz will pick apart Mighty Mouse and can probably take him down at well. Pat Barry vs. Struve should be great, Barry should KO Struve quick, he just can’t fall into a triangle when trying to finish it, he’s cut though if he loses. Anthony Johnson vs. Brenneman will be interesting. I do think though that Johnson will learn from watching the Story fight and won’t let Brenneman hump out a decision. I think he will go out there with killer instinct and if Brenneman humps him the first round he will take the initiative to dump Brenneman on his back in the following rounds. Gas tank though could win the fight for Brenneman. Fight I’m most excited for though is on the undercard with hometown boy Easton making his UFC debut vs. Houghland who had a good UFC debut in his own right. Should be a highlight real for Easton, although I do fear Easton’s lack of top quality opponents although training with Cruz at times that shouldn’t be a problem.
10/8: Maynard vs. Edgar
IMO on paper the best card of the year. Finally the trilogy so we can move on with the LW division. I expect much of what happened in their last fight past round one. I expect Edgar to cruise to a pretty comfortable decision this go round. Aldo vs. Florian should be interesting. Everything tells me Aldo should win as a combination of Aldo being a beast and Kenflo being a big time choker, but Kenflo is very crafty and understands how to win rounds with points and he did look great last fight. If Kenflo’s wrestling is on and he utilizes his jab and elbows he could actually take this. Of course if he comes out nervous again he’ll get KO’ed quick. I’m rooting for Stann to KO Chael but it’s not happening. Lets not forget that Stann got absolutely dominated by Phil Davis’s wrestling, and even Krzystof used his average to below average wrestling to beat Stann. I’m sure Stann has improved but I can’t see him staying off his back. Herman and Russow is a funny main card fight with the great fights on the undercard but this is a typical UFC pairing. Should be a sloppy slug fest. Guillard vs. Lauzon should be exciting for the one round it lasts. Guillard’s takedown defense will likely lead to a brutal first round KO however if J-lau can manage to get it to the matt things should be interesting. Pettis vs. Stephens on the undercard is likely FOTN maybe of the year. Will be a pure standup war, Pettis’s takedown defense is actually not bad as witness in his roller fight, he was probably just nervous vs. Guida plus Guida is persistent on takedowns. I know Stephens has been showing some wrestling his past few fights but he’s not taking down Pettis thus it will be exciting as hell. Stephens has more power but we should see the entire array of diverse striking from Pettis. Can’t wait for this fight. Personally I feel this should be on the main card over Guillard vs. Lauzon. Maia vs. Santiago is another interesting fight and will test Maia’s stand up if he can’t get to the gorund, which looked much improved vs. Munoz. Nam Phan vs. Leonard Garcia is also rumored to be on the card although I think they end up moving that to another card as that’s a fight that hast to be on a Spike prelim at least. Also excited for Miocic vs. Beltran. Miocic has the tools to be a top HW one day but Beltran is tough as nails and won’t go down easy. Top to bottom on paper an absolutely sick card.

Great win for Ellenberger, but he's just another run of the mill 170 wrestler... More aggressive than Fitch and smarter than Kos, but... He's kind of just "meh" to me.
I don't know why Shields is trying to strike with people. It's not his game and at this point, it never will be.

I just like that another former GSP opponent has been finished by some other guy.

It's nice to see Ellenberger getting some notice. I think people are starting to hype him up too much a bit because he finished GSP's latest opponent, but that's just MMA for you. Everyone who finishes their last fight is a god among men until they lose and become overrated.

Man I'm excited for the new TUF season. Off to a good start.
Also...I absolutely can't stand Michael Bisping. Hoping Mayhem kicks his ass.
