Chargers draft day discussion -
Thought I'd get the party started a little early-
Thoughts of the day - what transpires with Turner, which values fall to the #30 pick, which targets are taken off of our board early.
The rumor is that it's the Packers who are willing to give that 08 first rounder, which makes sense with the story, seeing as I believe Turner's agent probably had deals worked out with the Titans and Bills, but the trade compensation couldn't be agreed upon. Pack haven't brought Turner in to discuss contract and likely want to evaluate him before locking him up long term, and they could use the franchise tag on him to prevent him from skipping town if it comes to him possibly hitting the open market.

Did they offer it with a straight face? Too funny.
I still don't see why teams that are considering taking Lynch in the first rd would not offer at least this yr's first rounder for Turner. This is one of the worst rb drafts I can recall. Lynch would be mid-second most years.

Raiders go with JaMarcus Russell. Looks like three solid arms in the division now with Rivers, Cutler and Russell.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, that big arm doesn't have much of a brain behind it.

Well, all four safeties are gone, which is frustrating, but it looks like if Meachem survives Dallas here at #26, he's going to be there for us at #30. David Harris & Eric Weddle could be wildcards.

I find it a little fishy that the club that was supposedly negotiating the hardest for Turner drafted a guy that A.J. Smith is known to covet. Don't be surprised if Turner is dealt to Tenn before the day is done and Griffin is a Charger.

I guess this is why the Chargers rarely draft WRs in the first round. They're not very good at it. Oh well. They wanted a speed guy and he has that.
I live in Louisiana and see almost all of LSU's games, and unless he improves a lot (which is possible), I just don't expect this guy to be much more than a solid #3.

Craig Davis....out of the blue?
I dont think any of us saw that coming...I'm going to watch the rest of the draft at a friends house but I'll say this.
Is it a reach? without a doubt
There's no denying we couldve maybe even got this guy with our second rounder. On that, I'm suprised we reached.
BUT...Craig davis the player is a good fit for us. He's the kinda guy we should have been looking at to play WR oppostie Vjax.
The player is good for us. The pick...I don't know about.

I cant believe we gave all those picks for Weddle. Thats ridiculous. Not really too happy how our draft has been going today.

I love getting Weddle, but why didn't they just take him at 30 and then take the best slot wr availible with the next pick. I'm afraid this also spells the end my Turner for Griffin speculative deal.
While I'm ok with the players we got, you have to admit they were acquired in sloppy fashion. Looks like A.J. lost a little on his fastball today.

I like what the Chargers did in getting PLayers
hoWEVER .... i like weddle a lot, davis is a good fit for what we need...nd waters gives ILB depth for usm w hich we need. ....
We did however give up to o much for weddle IMO,; yet hopeflully he is worth it.
Did any of u find this draft abnormal for AJ msith? because this is the first time ive seen himj make moves liek this...like trading up for weddle and such...

I actually was kind of hoping for Davis since Nelson, Meriweather and Meachem were gone. I watch LSU a lot and have been surprised this guy wasn't considered a 1st rounder. None of the other available receivers had the speed or playmaking ability that Davis has. Not to mention excellent hands. The Weddle trade came completely out of nowhere and was the last thing I was expecting. We gave up a lot for him but I think time will tell it was well worth it.

ah....drunk posting....
my bad on that guys.
Anyway yea like dback23 said before me, the guys could be great players in SD, but I definitely think we could have gotten better value, and taken them later on in the draft.
Personally, if it was'nt AJ Smith running our draft, I'd havea huge problem, but because of past draft success....I have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
