And no, I did not want to get sucked into the page trap :)

I know I turn 28 this year, make $23 an hour, but I have no kids, and outside of my rent being 900 a month the only bills I have to keep up with is a cell phone. I keep my debt low and that's plenty to hold me over. Well, and we get unlimited OT whenever we want, so on rent checks I'll work 50-60 hrs for a few weeks.
If somebody can't live comfortably off of roughly 4k a month, you have got to cut down on some of the rolling debt you pay monthly, or go and get your masters degree. Obviously I am looking at a raise in a year to two, but not complaining for now.
|
I have a masters, and I make good money. I was just making a point to whoever said 48K was good money. I'm married, make about 60K and live comfortably. My point was that when we are young, making 200 bucks a week felt awesome. 10 years later, you realize how much stuff actually costs.
And since this is a car thread. Here are mine.

How much more can you do with 60k that you can't with 48 if i'm a single male? You made it seem like peanuts when you don't make that much more, and with a masters degree.

As a single male, 48K is good. The year before I got married I made about 38K and was doing great.

My parents couldnt even touch $48K combined these days, not even close. They probably never made much more than $60K combined in their brightest days either.
I personally, could live very comfortably on far, far less than $48K per year.

When I owned 2 S2000's before I sold the silver one...
Old silver one I sold a few months ago...I miss that car but luckily i held onto the red one
and now with the my red one with the old silver one.

God that Scion thing is without a doubt the ugliest car I've seen. Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that :)

Must add... that if you can support two people on 60k, things really are ridiculously expensive over here, I don't think I could support myself on that over here, nevermind a wife! I hope like hell that is at least your after tax income, that would at least make it more reasonable!

They are incredibly ugly. But for a relatively cheap car, they are absolutely amazing inside. If it didn't look like a toaster on wheels, I would definitely look at buying one.

Nope, that is my salary pre-tax. Then you have to take out 5% that goes directly into my retirement fund, just over 16% that get's taken out for taxes, $2400 for health insurance a year, and a few other deductions and it comes out to about $42,250 a year that you actually get in your paycheck. It is definitely livable so things must be ridiculously expensive over there.

You can do a lot more with 60k, don't discount 12k. I make near double 48k and I'm 24. Times are changin, people make more money now.

Not the car I currently drive, but my first car was a 1980 Buick Regal. My brother and I got it in 2002 for $1100. Pretty weird car for a couple of upper-middle class white guys. When it died, I upgraded to a nice 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. To say I was a chick magnet in high school would be the understatement of the century.
