Don't look now, but Marks had another good game. Hope he's turned a corner because he looks like a different player so far this year

Yeah he has stepped up for sure, hope his knee injury isn't serious. Dude was a 2nd round pick so it's about time we started seeing pay off for that. I remember seeing lots of good plays from him in college, always hoped he'd be solid.

Seeing Mariani's injury was brutal. You could visibly see the bulge in his sock where his leg was broken (DON'T YOU POST THAT PIC, COMPLEX!!!). I hope he's okay, but he'll be done until next year. If it's just a break, then he should be able to come back with time.
The turnaround in Marks is stunning. He totally looks like a different player, and looks like our best inside pass-rusher. Even when he's double-teamed, he pushes the pocket and helps the ends get to the QB. It's got me excited.
Reynaud played WR at West Virginia, so I wonder if he keep 4 RB's and 5 WR's (Britt, Washington, Wright, Williams, Hawkins). We'll probably bring in a guy if Kenny's still on PUP or suspended, and then let him go when Kenny's ready. Both Reynaud and Cook can line up in the slot.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- In anticipation of tomorrow's 75-player roster limit, the Tennessee Titans today made the following roster moves.
The team released 11 players, including:
QB Nick Stephens, RB Herb Donaldson, TE Joey Haynos, WR Laquinton Evans, WR Chase Deadder, WR Marcus Harris, OL William Vlachos, OL George Bias, OL Jonathan Palmer, S Christian Scott and K William Batson.
In addition, wide receiver/kick returner Marc Mariani was placed on injured reserve and rookie safety Markelle Martin was placed on Reserve/PUP. Mariani will not be eligible to return to the active roster this year and Martin can return to the active roster after the first six weeks of the season.
The team must trim its roster to the final 53-player limit by Sunday, Sept. 2.

Quote:
The delay possibly arises from the fact that the NFL doesn’t quite know what to do with Britt. On one hand, his July DUI arrest was his eighth incident in three years. On the other hand, it was his first DUI — and the substance-abuse policy plainly states that the ordinary punishment for a first-offense DUI is a two-game fine, after the case is resolved with some attachment of guilt to the player.
Thus, any effort to suspend Britt via a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back theory under the personal-conduct policy would be undermined by the reality that the straw that is breaking the camera’s back doesn’t even fall within the confines of the personal-conduct policy. Which means that the NFL could be inviting another lawsuit if the NFL tries to suspend Britt under the personal-conduct policy for something that falls under the substance-abuse policy.
|
It's not out of the question that Britt gets off without a suspension. I'm holding out hope. He's definitely a dumbass, but damnit, he's our dumbass

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he didn't get a suspension.
Goodell is probably all like, "We can't suspend him or we'll be sued! I know. Let's make them sweat it out until the day before game 1. Yes! That's it! My trusty brain that I keep in this ham-shaped box of a head never ceases to amaze me in its cleverness."
Or something similar to that.

Hernandez just got 5 yr/$40 million from New England. Wonder what Jared Cook will get now, especially if he improves upon last year's numbers.

It's up to you of course. I'd like to see what you pull off though.

I hope the commish leaves Kenny alone. We needs him!
If the Hawk is going to be a let down this season due to his ankle or whatever, then I think they have to look at bringing a WR in. Apparently Mariani could have filled in at WR just fine. Losing him, having a starting rookie, a recovering Kenny, and having a gimpy Hawk may leave us a bit thin at WR.

That's cool. Probably wouldn't play much, if any at all, that game anyway.

THOUGHTS:: Wimbley was one of our biggest signings this offseason, so he's definitely starting. The Morgan-Egboh battle has been interesting to watch. Morgan looked better at the end of last season, but he's hasn't looked as consistent this offseason. Egboh has really intriguing size and has looked better than Morgan, at least to me. I've got Dave Ball penciled in as one of our backup DEs. Honestly, I hope he retires because of all the concussion issues that he's had recently; but, until that happens, he's penciled in as one of our primary backups because of his leadership and pass-rushing skills. I think Douzable wins the last DE spot because of his versatility in playing both DE and DT in certain situations. That's a nice luxury to have in a depth guy.
DT:
1. Jurrell Casey
2. SenDerrick Marks
3. Karl Klug
4. Mike Martin
5. Zach Clayton
THOUGHTS: Casey is a stud in the making, and I love Klug's ability to rush the passer. Marks has looked better lately -- both at the end of last season and in this preseason. Right now, he's the "starter" alongside Casey, but I wouldn't be surprised if Martin wins that job at some point, probably sooner rather than later. Lastly, Clayton is like a poor man's Klug: tons of effort and some DT/DE versatility, which our coaches love. Great depth guy.
|
I agree with everything else except right here. I would personally rather keep Keyunta Dawson than Douzable. However, if we are really wanting to get into it I'd rather keep Dawson and release Clayton, Giving us 6 ends and 4 DTs. We could then have Douzable as a DE/DT hybrid to where he would get snaps at DT if needed.

It wouldn't shock me if Keyunta Dawson made the team as a depth DE, after a pretty decent offseason/preseason. And yes...Douzable and Clayton are both candidates that could make the team or could get cut.
Right now, though, I think there's a good chance that Dawson, Douzable, and Clayton all make the team and that Dave Ball gets cut. He's been a great vet for us; but it's clear that he can't get over the concussion-symptoms, which are not something to fool around with. I'd rather take a chance with the younger guys than go with Ball's recurring concussions.

What does it matter? He's like the 4th or 5th corner and plays special teams. The guys he made the team over are terrible, it's highly doubtful he's forcing some hidden gem off of the roster. He's not nearly as bad as most people make him out to be anyway (mostly because of that one game a couple years back) and Chris Hawkins was god awful this preseason despite having some solid moments last year.

Well...I predicted that Chris Hawkins would beat out Ryan Mouton; but I'm not terribly surprised that it happened the other way around. Hawkins is a decent depth guy, but Mouton can also contribute on special-teams. (Plus, the coaches seem to really like Mouton.)
I also thought Zach Clayton might make the team, as well as Michael Preston (at least for the beginning of the season because of Marc Mariani's injury). I wouldn't be surprised if we try to get Preston and Collin Mooney for our PS.
And I heard that we put Dave Ball on the IR -- which could mean his playing days are over.

The other thing Mouton has going for him is that he's a better slot corner than outside corner. When you get to the back end of your roster, situational play like that matters a lot.

With the new IR rules I'm wondering if we can/are planning to bring any guys back. It's kinda surprising a few guys made the roster.

What players from other teams caught your eye?
Here's a few guys I wouldn't mind taking a look at, and potentially signing to the roster, but most for most the practice squad(former team in parenthesis)
LB Quan Sturdivant (Cardinals)
TE LaMark Brown (Falcons)
WR Kerry Meier (Falcons)
LB Tank Carder (Bills)
LB Emmanuel Lamur (Bengals)
WR Josh Cooper (Browns)
LB/DE Adrian Hamilton (Cowboys)
LB Orie Lemon (Cowboys)
WR Jason Hill (Broncos)
WR Gerrell Robinson (Broncos)
CB Alphonso Smith (Lions)
DE Tim Fugger (Colts)
WR BJ Cunningham (Dolphins)
WR Deion Branch (Patriots)
LB Greg Jones (Giants)
WR Mardy Gilyard (Eagles)
CB Joselio Hansen (Eagles)
OG Brandon Washington (Eagles)
DE Cam Johnson (49ers)
WR Jermaine Kearse (Seahawks)
OT Joe Long (Rams)
DE Scott Smith (Rams)
WR Jordan Shipley (Bucs)
Obviously some aren't worth signing but I'd express an interest to have them on call in case we get injury concerns.
