The Cowboys claimed quarterback Rudy Carpenter off of waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a source confirmed.

Carpenter, who turns 26 this month, broke into the NFL on the Cowboys’ practice squad in 2009 as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State. Tampa Bay claimed him off of the Cowboys’ practice squad in November of that season.

Carpenter had been with Tampa Bay since then but appeared in only one game. The Buccaneers released him Wednesday.

Carpenter is likely to compete with Stephen McGee to be the No. 3 quarterback behind Tony Romo and Kyle Orton.

You guys see this rumored schedule:

http://eaglesstats2012.blogspot.com/...edule.html?m=1

If that's real and we beat the Giants, 5-0 is a pretty distinct possibility if we are playing good football. Even if we don't beat the Giants though we should be able to get out to a nice start.

Also, a Week 10 bye would we a great thing, especially if we got out to a fast start. We always have like a week 4 bye and it screws us for the end of the season. We are going to need it too if that's our real second half of the season. It's a chance to prove we don't collapse at least.

EDIT: Heard it was fake after a little bit of research, so we'll see.

What gave it away? haha.

They do have some guys that claim to have inside info and since I've been on that board they tend to be right the majority of the time so it certainly seems credible, but at the same time I still take it with a grain of salt. It is entertaining at the very least and is the most active Cowboys board I've seen, they have a massive number of posters.

I just like our community a lot better. It's a melting pot of fans and everyone here is not only incredibly knowledged, but also very unbiased... which is refreshing. We're more centralized around the draft and that's why I was originally drawn in, I'm a draftnik at heart.

Team boards like Cowboyszone just get a little too homeristic for me, but the news traffic is fantastic.

We're not really supposed to be promoting other sites though so I don't want to talk it up too much. I just brought it up because D was asking.

Ok, here is a thought that I just had, why not take a look into someone like Amobi Okoye? He is just now turning 24 which is just about the same age as some of the guys who would be getting drafted. He hasn't panned out so far in the league but when he came in he was a 19 year old kid. I think having him learn from Rex Ryan could be the perfect chance for him to return to the form of what he was expected to become when he was 19.

I wouldn't mind it, but we never do the 2nd chance thing with guys like that. Like what the Jets did with Aaron Maybin.... I don't remember the Cowboys ever doing something like that. I guess you could say Pacman Jones but he was already a pretty good player.

Marc Colombo even though his problems were more injury based then effort.

Pass. He doesn't bring anything more than what we already have being developed in Hatcher and Lissemore. I mean if he's coming for very cheap (minimum) he can be a camp guy and earn a spot in our rotation.

I'd bring Okoye in for a one year league minimum deal and see if he can get hungry again.

Has anyone thought about how Romo is going to look in the new jerseys? He always wears that baggy as hell one and looks so goofy.. maybe now he will finally look like the athlete he really is lol.

I honestly never thought he was any good. I didn't understand the predraft hype.

To be fair though, I was a huge Allan Branch fan that year. Oops.

But Fat Allan has turned his career around in Seattle.

Exactly what I said last week:

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys are a huge television draw, which is one of the reasons why they will open the preseason schedule on ESPN at Oakland on Aug. 13.

But by doing so the NFL has not done the Cowboys a favor, considering they will play the New York Giants in the regular-season opener on Sept. 5 at MetLife Stadium.

League rules state a team can open training camp 15 days prior to their first preseason game, so the Cowboys and Raiders will be the last two teams to report.

That puts the Cowboys’ arrival in Oxnard, Calif., at July 29, although quarterbacks, injured players from 2011 and rookies can report five days earlier, per the collective bargaining agreement. The CBA also prevents a team from working in pads the first three days of camp.

The Giants will play at Jacksonville in their first preseason game scheduled Aug. 9-12. If the defending Super Bowl champs play the Jaguars on Aug. 9, then they could gain a competitive edge on the Cowboys with four more days of practice/meeting time.

The Giants’ final three preseason games will be at MetLife Stadium. The Cowboys play at Oakland and San Diego and are expected to return to Oxnard for a week of work before their home preseason opener against St. Louis at Cowboys Stadium that will be played Aug. 23-26.

The Cowboys would likely play their final preseason game on Aug. 29 against Miami.

The NFL’s $10 million salary-cap judgment against the Cowboys (and the $36 million against Redskins) was based on the teams creating a competitive advantage in an uncapped season.

With this preseason schedule the Cowboys could be at a competitive disadvantage entering the regular season against the Giants.
Our preseason schedule is bull ****. They really should appeal it if possible. It's a serious disadvantage with us opening the season on a wednesday. Of course all would be forgotten if we win... but right now that schedule doesn't look very enticing.

It's preseason. Vanilla offense versus Vanilla defense. The last game of preseason is a "roster try-out" game anyhow with 1 series or none for starters. Garrett and Rob will be game-planning the Giants starting WAAAAY before preseason. It is certainly not ideal but it's not like any of our starters will be fatigued since their minutes will be very low.
