Best of luck T-New! It's a shame we never really fielded a competitive team while you were in your prime. :(

It's kind of unfortunate how Newman is viewed by Cowboys fans these days. The guy was a beast for a long while. He's just old and washed up now, but he was a damn good player for the majority of his career.

I agree. At one point he was by far my favorite cowboy. I loved everything about him, but he had to go. Best of luck to him.

Agreed. During his prime he was a true "shut-down corner" even with the rest of our defense being complete and utter trash. Fond memories of T-New but he needed to be gone even if his contract wasn't an albatross. As you said... he just got old and constantly injured.

That's part of the game.. you are good, get old, then you are no longer good... Same could be said about Roy Williams (safety), when he was good, it was great, when he was bad, well, you know the rest

It sucks that he came into the league as a 25 year old rookie. If he came into the league at 21 or 22 and played behind a bit better pass rush he really could have an argument for the hall of fame.

Newman's career is fine by me. He was great for many years, and even though he made the Pro Bowl twice he could have made it a couple of times more. His 05 season was incredible. He got overlooked, but it's crazy how great he played that year. He played 9 years, made multiple Pro Bowls, and was a great player when he was on. I always remember him as being the head guy of a great draft class.

Newman never became a truly beloved player because he never stepped up as a leader for the team.

Newman had an epic regression, dropped way to many easy INTs the last few yrs.

When you're 3 yrs. older than everyone else, your rergression & losing a step or 2 or 3 yrs. earlier too

According to ESPN Dallas, the Cowboys have had "internal discussions" about trading Felix Jones.
Beat writer Calvin Watkins says it "wouldn't surprise anyone" if the Cowboys moved on from Jones if they found an early- to middle-round runner to replace him as DeMarco Murray's complementary back. Jones is signed only through 2012, so the time for Dallas to move on from him is now, if that's their true intent. It sounds like Jones will be available on draft weekend
http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/n...ng-felix-jones

Not that it would be any surprise that we would move him for the right price but anyone have a gauge on what his potential value might bring? Im thinking not more then a 4th round pick, especially since he is in the last year of his deal. I have complete confidence that with the two 4ths and Felix on the table that there isn't a player in the 2nd or 3rd round that is out of reach. We should be able to get good value with the assets available to move around.

Watkins also has the primary concern of generating clicks. The front office, scouting department, and JG not just said no but vehemently said no. JG went as far to say he is an integral part of this season's plan.

It does help Felix that all of the players we scouted a "like Murray". If anything scouting those types of prospects bodes poorly for Phillip Tanner.

I'm still not sold on Jason Garrett as an NFL-quality HC.

He did lots of the right things his 2nd yr, bringing in a formidable DC in Ryan to retool things as much as the short camp allowed, handed off playcalling to someone else (anyone! his brother? anybody but Jason!), struck gold with textbook impact rookie Tyrion Smith, & found a move-the-chains gem in scatback Demarco Murray, but he caved under the stress at Zona when he iced his own kicker.

Call it weird, but that was a game the coaching staff lost, not the team, clearly a game they could've & should've won.

He has Jerry looking over his shoulder 24/7 & that's scary, but it's still an excuse. And he grew up in this team, known it intimately his whole life, knows the personalities, etc. He should know by now when to stand up to Jerry & when to go along to get along.

I have high expectation for Ryan's customized 3-4 defense this yr. with a raise in the talent level. And no more late game lapses!

If Garrett shows the white feather under pressure again this season, I say take him out & shoot him. Or make him give Jerry a sponge bath.

I understand what you are saying, but rookie coaches make mistakes just like rookie players.

He has been pretty upfront this offseason about looking at himself and things he did wrong. Now, if we're sitting here offseason after next and saying the same thing, you may be right.

I prefer to think that a guy that is as smart as JG and been around the game his entire life, will grow into the role quickly.

A few daily tidbits

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...g-felix-jones/

SJ squashing Felix Jones trade rumors. Could be all smoke and mirrors, but unless we have plans on drafting a solid back, then it's pointless in my opinion.

Bradie James signed with the Texans. Glad to see him get a shot with another team. He's a solid team leader, but his time with us was over.

I don't know, I think we need to scrap Felix. He's too finesse. We brought in Callahan and 2 gound 'n pound OGs. I want a ground 'n pound RB. Murray is a nice piece but we need another.

I really think they like Felix and aren't going to trade him, but I would go in another direction. Trade him for whatever you can get on draft day and pick someone in the 5th-6th round.

Any of the following would work: Gannaway, Creer, Heron, Green, etc.

No thanks. Until we can see Murray get through a year healthy, I don't want to get rid of Felix.
