Haha, Parnell seemed better than Free not that that said much.
I like the team's logic though, take your worst O lineman and don't cut him or bench him, rely on him to start at a different position!
It could work out, but this team's history of putting what looks to be below average NFL talent and trying to make it work to pretend it has no needs going into the draft is abysmal.

At a loss here to be honest. Not sure what Rob needed to do with our roster to keep his job.
Wonder if this is a potential switch to more 4-3? Ware would be fine on one side, draft/sign someone for the other side, Lee is an ideal MLB, Carter may be even better at OLB, sigh.... granted a shift would make more holes than perhaps it's worth.

Yea just saw that.
I'm pissed about this. Robs D was carrying our team throughout the first half of the season before the unit got decimated by injury, he saved Garrett's job because we would have been 0-8 to start the year if not for our defense playing at an elite level. Even when our unit had the injuries those guys played hard for him.
I just lost a lot of respect for Garrett, this is not the first time he's been accused of throwing coaches or players under the bus to save his ass either.

Think this is more damning of JG then it is Rob Ryan. I don't think the JG/RR experiment was working and from the outside looking it...It looks like Jerry is basically giving JG another year to fix it or be gone.
So JG might as well go all out with who he wants to hire/fire.

I have no clue. It didn't seem like JG had any issues with Rob.
I'm inclined to put Jerry behind this one.

JG's end of season presser gave plenty clues.

It's Garrett trying to save his own ass man. I can't wait to see how they try and spin this.

Well Rob's the fall guy, pretty much. He did a hell of a job given what he was working with and Garrett wanted the attention away from how his offense shat the bed for 8 games.

Rob Ryan was a lot of hot air, I'm truly indifferent...think he did a great job with the injuries, but all too often we're rushing 3, overthinking ourselves, dropping Ware in coverage.
9 Seasons being a DC...never had a team over 500.

I'm 100% shocked.
The dude held together a patchwork defense all year and kept us in all types of ball games. Garrett should have been the one worrying about his job not Rob.

The sad thing for Rob is, somebody is going to come in next year and have a top 10 unit waiting on them. Maybe top 5 if they stay healthy and add a few pieces.

Rob Ryan's words
"I inherited a team that was 31st in the league in defense and made them better," Ryan said. "I (expletive) made them a hell of a lot better. I'll be out of work for like five minutes."
"I think I did a good job and I think our staff did a good job on defense trying to compete with what we had at the end of the year," Ryan said. "But the best job we did was when we were able to coach our starters."

Counterpoint: He was the DC for the Browns and Raiders
By DVOA he was middle of the road:

isn't jerry behind everything?
i ain't mad, most people only remember how the season ended but i started to feel like the cowboys needed a new d-coordinator after the cleveland game and its only strengthened after the second philly game. there were two many times this year where we had problems getting personnel on and off the field. and lets not forget his patented drop d-ware and/or spencer in coverage and oly rush 3 guys.
imo rob ryan is smoke and mirrors coach who does his best work with less talent because he can be more exotic and create confusion. but here a times it cost him because he had better talent but in trying to be exotic and create confusion he took guys out of positions where they succeed and some his game plans and were unsound and flat out stupid (ie 3 man rush vs cle or that 2-4 alignment vs philly)

So you don't think he can do better?
Last year the CB's got the blame, this year it's the injuries.
Either way....this isn't a case where Ryan proved himself and got the shaft. If there's an upgrade out there, why not go for it? Reading Horton(who JG wanted initially), Lovie, and a few other names.
His own brother won't hire him as DC.
If the best thing that can be said was "Well he was firey and I liked his attitude..."
You guys didn't get tired of seeing Weeden, Foles, and any other rookie QB pick us apart because they'd rush 3 and drop 8 in a soft zone?
Cowboys can do better...
I get it, people love his personality. So did I...

This is typical Jerry Jones. But sure, let's keep Garrett around and continue to call plays. I'm guessing Jerry wasn't paying attention to much this season smh..

Completely accurate on his part. I believe that Cowboys Fans are confused around the nation. I would even argue that many of the defensive players are going to be a bit puzzled.

We blew too many 4th quarter leads last season, and this year we couldn't get off the field, especially in the 4th quarter.
28th in 10-play drives allowed with 32.
They intercepted just seven passes. No team intercepted fewer.
The Cowboys created just 79 negative plays, 31st in the NFL.
I LOVE Rob Ryan and what he did here but I do see why they decided to go another direction. I can see us bringing in Lovie Smith and giving Garrett one more year. If Garrett fails, we can just promote Lovie to HC.

Don't let the facts speak....Rob Ryan was "firey" so this firing was unwarranted
Bottom 3rd in the league defensively in most categories except yards...which is middle of the pack.
It's a surprising firing, but it's nothing to be up in arms about, imo.
And then there's this...again

Like I said earlier, this SCREAMS to me that Jerry had a sit down with Garrett and said No playoffs this year and he's gone, and gave him the keys to hire his coaching staff. This just tells me that JG is going "all in" with his staff or flaming out with his staff....either way. I'm all for it, put some heads to the fire!

This whole DC carousel is such a joke. It's like flipping burgers around here. Seriously, do you expect a respected guy to come in now? Heck, I hope so, but I wonder what kind of job security he'll think he has. Rob did as damned good a job as possible. When you have guys coming off the street, of course there will be communication issues, and fine you can complain about that, but was THAT really the reason for the firing?
I wonder if Garrett feared that Rob might be a strong candidate to replace him as the Cowboys HC, so that's why he got him out of the picture before it could happen...
Just seems so strange.
