Not just any Canadian team, but the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. So Indiana lost to another college team, from Canada.

I think the end might be near for the peacock...

Indiana fans are crazy. They want to fire a coach who was a #1 seed two years ago. Their program was a disaster before Crean took over. Also, if conferences were picked today, Indiana wouldn't have the luxury of being in a power conference and have millions of dollars to spend on a coach.

Yea, the "power conferences" aren't taking a top 50 revenue athletic dept. with one of the best basketball traditions in the country. Good call.

When the Big 12 dissolves, Kansas isn't being invited to another power conference.

There's a difference.

You said if the conferences were picking today, as in forming conferences from scratch, Indiana wouldn't be selected. They absolutely would, and so would Kansas.

Now, if the Big 12 dissolves, there is a legit possibility that Kansas wouldn't get automatically picked up by another conference just because no conference is going to kick any current member out. But even so, I still don't think there will be a scenario where we don't see Kansas in a power conference.

Skal Labissiere lists his top 6.

Baylor, Georgetown, Kentucky, Memphis, UNC, and Tennessee.

This kid has a real nice touch and looks very promising with a little polish.

Yeah kind of.. He is from Tennessee though, originally from Haiti ..so he might be a little out of the loop as far as what he wants.

Is it really a weird list? Like thenewfeature said he lives in Tennessee which explains Tennessee and Memphis. Both UNC and Kentucky should be pretty self explanatory, Baylor recruits tremendously well under Scott Drew, and Georgetown has a fantastic tradition with big men.

Yeah derza knows, if he didn't live in Tennessee it would be a little weirder.

Memphis isn't really bad at recruiting, somehow they still get good players. All the other ones make sense.

Lawrence is basically a suburb of Kansas City, a metro area larger than Las Vegas.

So what? Missouri has a (much) better football program than Kansas. Also, Kansas is in the same breath as North Dakota, South Dakota, etc. There's low population places.

Once the economy booms again, Las Vegas will pass Kansas City in population.

....and Nevada. And Kansas has three times the population of either Dakota state, so not really.

Christ. Do you even think before you post?

If the Big 12 dissolves, I'd bet the Big Ten would go for Kansas immediately. (assuming Texas and Oklahoma probably go to the SEC)

Let's say there are 5 power conferences (Big Ten, SEC, Pac 10, ACC, American/whatever) and 12 teams per conference (at least). Kansas is 100% within the top 60 of athletic departments that would be chosen.

I would love to see your top 60 teams that would be chosen by the power conferences. As soon as I see UNLV over Indiana or Kansas, I will quit reading.

I for one completely agree that every major conference would pass over the school with the #2 most profitable basketball program in the country.

Even overlooking a single sport (as enormous as it is) and taking into account entire ADs, both Indiana and Kansas are easily top 50 revenue generating ADs overall. I think they are actually both in the top 30-40.

Just looked it up, Kansas was 23rd and Indiana 34th in 2013.

Kansas didn't bolt when Missouri, Texas A&M, Colorado, and Nebraska did because it doesn't matter what conference they're in and they didn't want to leave K-State behind.

Christ. Do you even think before you post?
Nevada is in the same region as California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado.

Just looked it up, Kansas was 23rd and Indiana 34th in 2013.
That's because they're in a power conference.

I know the Big Ten places importance on schools being members of the AAU, which Kansas is.

Somehow we've managed to get back into a "Las Vegas vs. another city" conversation. I'm shocked!

No, it's not. Their reputations and strong fan bases were achieved through many years of being members of power conferences, yes, but if all conferences dissolved today, neither Kansas nor Indiana are all of a sudden going to go broke. At least no more so than 95% of schools.

You have this logical fallacy that if conferences went away or schools had to find a new conference, that their athletic depts would have to start all over. Do you really think if the Big 12 dissolves, that Kansas would all of a sudden lose all their fans and make no money? The conferences helped build the images of schools, but today schools are a brand name all of their own.

I mean, when you are arguing Las Vegas vs. Lawrence or even Kansas City for that matter, do you seriously think the only KU fans are in the state of Kansas?
