College hoops needs to be called consistently throughout leagues, which I think is part of it. There are certain schools that consistently struggle in the tournament because they're used to being able to play a more physical brand of basketball.
That said, Louisville mugged people up and down the floor some games last year and won it all. Not sure if that style of play had anything to do with it, but I think Pitino figured refs wouldn't call stuff every time up and down the court and it set a precedent that allowed for more physical play. Helped them turn other teams over as much as they did.
In the Nike Hoops classic Exum proved that he belonged. I think that's where everyone is getting their opinions from. A PG that tall is rare so the Penny Hardaway comparisons are out there. He seems like a perfect fit for Orlando.
