Eh, the Pats ran a blatant pick play on that one. Sure lots of times they don't get called but I don't think it was a horrible call.

Overall it's easy to blame the refs for this one but it was not a good game for the Pats and they probably deserved to lose.

Geno marched the ball up and down on our defense with Kyle Aarington and Logan Ryan specifically being targetted. Luckily Geno made an ill-advised throw which led to the INT for TD.

McCourty had a really nice game and Chandler and Chris Jones showed up in the pass rush at times, but the defense struggled. A lot is to do with missing the 2 DTs and Mayo, however the difference in the passing game when Talib goes out is huge. Dennard is a stud and can fill in covering #1 WRs, but Arrington can't cover grass and Ryan is still a bit green.

Offensively after the first drive it was pretty horrendous.

Is Stevan Ridley that poor a passing down back that Bolden sees more than 50% of the snaps?

Solder got manhandled yesterday as well, although you won't see a better defensive front in football than the Jets.

Gronk had some nice flashes but at times you could tell it was his first game back.

I am actually getting impressed with Aaron Dobson the last few weeks. He is gaining nice seperation.

But for me the big problem is Brady. I literally do not feel comfortable any time Brady goes to throw the ball. He tries to muscle every single throw regardless of if it is a short cross or a deep fade. After a while we need to stop looking at the WRs and start admitting that Brady isn't playing well.

Maybe it is a confidence thing that will improve with more weapons, but damn he is playing his worst football this year

I made the mistake of listening to Patriots postgame on my long ride home yesterday. If we're being honest with ourselves the blame for yesterday's game should squarely fall on the shoulders of Brady. People are blaming the defense and the o-line when in reality they both had pretty good games yesterday. The Pats defense needed the Pats offense to net 14 points in regulation to win the game, 14 POINTS!!! A lot is being made of the Pats run defense today, but they allotted 3.5 ypc and 3.15 excluding Geno Smith runs. That should have been enough to get it done.

Now the O-line. They had the hardest matchup in the game. Wilkerson, Snacks, and Richardson are beating right now, and we pretty much played them to a draw. We got 4.5 ypc on the ground and really only gave up 6-8 decent pressure opportunities. Brady has just been such an enormous statue this year, and has taken every potential sack that has come his way. With a guy like Russell Wilson that may be a 0 sack game, and an averagely mobile QB that's probably a 2 sack game. It's hard for me to blame the oline when they're giving him 5 second clean pockets 75% of the time against that front.

Brady has 3 qualities that have made him great.
1) Short and Intermediate accuracy
2) Ability to navigate and step up in the pocket
3) Decision making

The only one that is really manifesting itself on the field right now is number 3. I'm worried that 2 may be gone forever, and number 1 mechanically just isn't there right now. Considering Mallett was struggling in the same area this preseason, you have to wonder if some coach like Brian Daboll is messing up their mechanics. I have nowhere near the acumen to tell, but it would be interesting for someone to take a deeper look.

Brady is our competitive advantage. He's how we should be winning games. He's the guy with the big contract, and we have been putting him in the position to make plays. It's on him if we don't succeed. I'm just tired of fans and commentators making excuses for him this season when quite simply he isn't delivering.

I agree with the sentiment already here. Overall the team played well and Brady didn't. I laughed to myself when watching b/c I thought "It's Mallett Time!" but realized by the end of the game that it really wasn't funny.

I'm 100% not blaming the loss we suffered today on the bad call, but this is kind of interesting.

http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com...roversy/26011/

Belichick, who has proven time and time again that he knows the rules as well as anyone in the game, had stated that he didn't agree with the foul and used some of the language cited in this as his reason for disagreeing with the call. He also NEVER shows up the refs in media events.

Again, what's done is done and we put ourselves in a position to lose that game by playing totally crummy football, but it's interesting nonetheless.
Interesting, indeed. That's tremendously FUBAR and I hope it does not get brushed under by the media. I am now very curious to see if this gets legs or just turns into a chance for the national media to say something negative about the Patriots for this "conspiracy" even existing. It looks like it's time for Roger to fine himself & his admin staff a cool 1/2 million and lose a draft pick.

No thread for the rule change in the forums. I'm curious to see if one comes up (not started by a Pats fan) and how long it takes, if it does.

Eh I dont think will be made, idk I find it hard to get upset about the rule when we just played a poor game anyway. Not sure that rule stays around much longer after this season anyway, as that was just ridiculous.

Me either, tbh. I do think it would have been made (about 30 seconds after it hit the internet) if the ruling had worked in the Patriots favor, though.

I'm pretty sure you guys know by now that I loathe those that claim "the refs won/lost the game" b/c there's always a lot of football that should have made a bigger difference. Ultimately, that loss is entirely on the Patriots. There were too many missed opportunities to point at one play and place the blame there. A bad call +/- misinterpreted rule is not the culprit in the loss.

I still expect Goodell to fine himself and forfeit a draft pick.

That call was BS but it shouldn't have come down to that.

And on top of everything else that was mentioned, our gameplan was ridiculously stupid. We had 0 balance yesterday. During the two minute drill, we had a good amount of run to pass plays to tie the game, and then right into OT we go three straight passes.

I really don't understand why, against a team like the Jets, we don't try more stretch runs. They are an aggressive front who can manhandle the offensive line when they get going so yeah, running up the gut can be tough. But you can use some of that aggression against them like they did on Ridley's TD run. At least that way you have a chance of getting some yardage and the play action threat opwns up. Yesterday they didn't put any sort of faith in the run game and just decided that Brady was going to spread them out.

Draws and screens. Things we used to run quite effectively. We ran a few with Bolden in a row and it slowed the D down well.

We ran an awesome wheel route with Bolden out of the backfield which got called back due to Gronk being ran into, and then called for setting a pick.

As much as I agree with the sentiment that this is on him as much(if not more) than anyone else, I'm really starting to buy into the murmurs that he may have hurt his throwing hand during the game. I've just never seen him THAT off in a game. No doubt he played poorly before it happened, but I've never seen him outright erratic like that. The placement of the deep ball is nothing new, but he didn't seem to have a ton of control over where the ball was going period yesterday. Something wasn't right.

Mallet supposedly put his helmet on and started warming up a bit after the pick six too.

There's gotta be something wrong with Brady's hand for his throws to be so off. Mallett warming up maybe confirms it as Brady would never be pulled simply for poor play.

Looking forward to the Miami game here is a few things I will be looking for.

The Dolphins have the type of WRs who can hurt our defense, even if Talib is back. Honestly, be it Dennard or Talib I don't think Mike Wallace will do too much damage, however Hartline and Gibson are the type of guys we seem to struggle with and one will most often be lined up against Kyle Arrington.

The Dolphins don't really possess a downhill runner to hurt our interior defensive line but Miller in the passing game against Spikes or Hightower could be bad.

I think Chandler Jones gon' eat this week regardless of who the Dolphins roll out at LT. Tannehill seems to lack an awareness in the pocket right now which isn't helped by the constant turnstyle nature of both Martin and Clabo's play. I also don't think McKinnie at this point is much of an upgrade.

Offensively it is a tough match up though. Starks, Odrick, Soliai etc provide a formidable front against the run but I think we need to commit to Ridley pounding the ball. Enough has been said about Wake and his ability to give Vollmer fits so we need to find a way to slow him down, be it screens, draws, play action etc.

Despite big money deals during the offseason I think their LBs are very mediocre. If Amendola is a go then that will help as the Dolphins will have to commit a LB to either him or Gronk.

At CB I think Brent Grimes is a nice player but a tad overrated. I'm not expecting our outside WRs to blow him up or anything but I think we can have some success outside if Brady is accurate.

Their safeties worry me though. If Gronk isn't on and Brady tries to force it up the seam they may make us pay.

I was more confident for this game early on Sunday but if we can;t get it going offensively I think it will be a struggle.

Andre Carter back with the team. I'm not sure how much he has left, but it's a decent signing. We already know he fits in the with team fairly well. Should be an option as a pass rusher on third downs at the very least.

I'm so over Pushgate already, but Belichick seems to be pretty pissed still. I don't have video of it, but there's apparently evidence that Coples pushed Wilkerson on a similar play on one of our field goal attempts.

To me, this thing is really a win for the Jets coaching staff. Say what you will about how hypocritical it may have been for them to apparently tell the officials to watch out for it when they were doing it themselves, but being able to use the rules and the officials to your advantage is part of the game. Ryan and the Jets managed to get one over on us at a key time.

Again, doesn't matter one bit if we're able to play competent offensive football. We have no one the blame but ourselves for the loss.

I'm with you on not putting yourself in a position to let some call or bad break be the differance in the game.

Pushgate still annoys me though. I kind of liken it to the last possession of an NBA game when there is something obscure that happens away from the ball. Refs need to not decide games if at all possible.

Just wanted to say, I haven't been able to see any games so far. Thanks to you guys and Mike Reiss, I feel like I'm still up to date with the season.

You guys rock!

I will say this, having every game come down to the wire is reminding me of the 01 and 03 seasons. Where are records were pretty good but we didn't blow out anyone. Every game came down to the wire. Kinda sucks I'm missing it... but probably good for my heart lol

Question... I read that Collins started in the base defense for Mayo but then played only 15 (ish) snaps for the game. Is that because he only played in the base defense or did he **** up and get benched? With his athleticism, I think he'd be the answer (or Fletcher... how's he looking?) to covering TE's, RBs and all our overall coverage issues with the LBs.

From what I could tell, the Jets started to focus more on the run after the first drive or two (+50 attempts so the Pats) and that dictated having Hightower and Spikes on the field at the same time. I think the days of seeing 3 LBs on the filed for the majority of snaps is gone so Collins was the first one to lose out

Some recently-released players that would be interesting signings:

TE Tony Scheffler

LB Martez Wilson

CB D.J. Moore

Was Davis actually released? Last I had heard, the Redskins were still looking to trade him. That would be a real interesting option to look at if we could get him.

Damn you ROP! Teasing us like that. Davis hasn't actually been reported released by any source I can find.

Still, considering he was a FA that received little interest and is not seeing any interest in trade offers, I'd love to see the Patriots throw a 5th or 6th at the Skins to see what happens. Letting Davis get waived and be open to any team that wants to claim him would be stupid.

Certainly deserved it. Didn't like that, personally. Nothing wrong with celebrations, but keep it classy.
